Band chest press
Chest · Band · also shoulders and triceps (back of the arms)
Set up
A resistance band and a solid anchor at chest height behind you, like a door anchor in a shut door.
Steps
- Hold one end of the band in each hand, with the band anchored behind you.
- Step forward until the band is tight, one foot in front of the other, hands beside your chest.
- Press your hands straight forward until your arms are nearly straight.
- Let them come back slowly to your chest.
Keep in mind
- Stand tall with your tummy lightly tight
- Elbows angle down a little, not straight out
- Keep your wrists straight
Common mistake
Letting the band pull your hands back fast. Control the way back, taking about two seconds.
Safety
Check the band for nicks or tears first. Make sure the anchor can't slip; if you use a door, keep it shut and locked.
Stop and rest if you feel chest pain, dizziness, unusual shortness of breath or sharp joint pain. Get medical help if it doesn't settle.
