Diamond push-up
Triceps · Bodyweight · also chest and shoulders
Set up
Floor space. A mat is kinder to your hands and knees.
Steps
- Put your hands on the floor under your chest, thumbs and first fingers touching in a diamond shape.
- Step your feet back so your body is straight from head to heels.
- Bend your elbows to lower your chest towards your hands, elbows brushing your sides.
- Push back up until your arms are straight.
Keep in mind
- Elbows stay close to your body
- Squeeze your bottom so your hips don't sag
- Knees down to make it easier
Common mistake
Elbows flaring out wide. Keep them close to your sides; put your knees down if you need to.
Safety
If your wrists or elbows hurt, move your hands a little further apart, or do regular push-ups instead.
Stop and rest if you feel chest pain, dizziness, unusual shortness of breath or sharp joint pain. Get medical help if it doesn't settle.
