Incline dumbbell press
Chest · Dumbbell · also shoulders and triceps (back of the arms)
Set up
Two dumbbells and an adjustable bench. Set the back to a low slope, about 30 degrees.
Steps
- Sit with a dumbbell on each thigh, then lie back holding them at your upper chest.
- Plant your feet flat on the floor.
- Press the dumbbells up until your arms are straight above your shoulders.
- Lower them slowly to the sides of your upper chest.
Keep in mind
- Keep your back and head on the bench
- Wrists straight, stacked over your elbows
- Elbows angle a little down, not straight out
Common mistake
Arching your lower back off the bench. Keep your bottom and back down, and use lighter dumbbells.
Safety
To finish, bring the dumbbells to your chest, then down to your thighs, and sit up.
Stop and rest if you feel chest pain, dizziness, unusual shortness of breath or sharp joint pain. Get medical help if it doesn't settle.
